Caring for older pets and their health issues

We have a male cat that has been a fixture around our home for over 10 years now. He is getting pretty old and he is having urinary issues that are starting to be a problem. TheJackson Kisses
major one being that he has started peeing outside of his potty box. Specifically he has taken up urinating in our children’s bedrooms. We don’t know if he is trying to tell us something or not, but it has gotten pretty gross.

We have managed to slow him down a little by always trying to keep our children’s bedroom doors closed, but of course we forget and he makes it in their to do his dirty work. Our kids haven’t noticed so much but we have shampooed their carpets a couple of times to make sure the kid’s bedrooms are hygienic and healthy for the kids to be in.

Pet’s get old. It’s a fact of life. And as they age they develop health issues that you want to be prepared for. Having a pet insurance policy to cover the invariable vet. bills can be a blessing for you and your pet.

Pet Insurance Plans: Can you get a benefit schedule?

When you start to looking at pet insurance plans it is really important that you know what and, what isn’t covered under the plan you are considering. It is veryDSC_8266 important that the insurance provider is very clear as to what is a covered expense, before you sign-up.

So before you signup with a provider ask for a benefit schedule. The schedule should list out pet aliments and the corresponding insurance payout  for that aliment.  Also make sure that the benefit schedule is specific to your geographic location. The cost of pet care in greater Los Angeles will generally be much higher than say Fresno, CA.

Also by looking at the benefit schedule it should be easy to determine the maximum payout per year for each aliment claim.  This is very important to know before a pet parent begins to pay for expense treament.

February is Spay and Neuter Month

It is Spay and Neuter month. The benefits of spaying or neutering your pet are three fold.  In addition to helping reduce pet overpopulation, it also lowers your pet’s risk of animal cancers, and decreases aggression, marking and wandering.

Check with your pet insurance provider, but if you have pet insurance (you do have pet insurance don’t you) you will get a substantial discount of the vet. procedure.

Check with your local Humane Society (Check on the  National Humane Society for information of the Humane Society in your area) on getting additional discounts on spay or neutering.

What is the best pet insurance

Trying to find the best pet insurance can be a confusing, time consuming and difficult effort. So taking a step-by-step approach and knowing what to look for is very important.

First it starts with the breed of your pet. It can have a very large bearing on what type of insurance you get and how much you purchase. Research your breed’s history and health problems. Knowing what your pet’s future health issues could be will really help in deciding what insurance provider you choose. Once you do decide on a provider, check the fine print on exclusions. A health condition your breed may be inclined to develop could be the one that a provider won’t cover.

The Best Pet Insurance Policy During this Holiday Season

What is the best pet insurance policy you can get for your loved one? Well read on and I’ll tell you.

So we just celebrated Thanksgiving and it’s on to the Christmas holiday season. This can be a busy time for all of us with shopping and holiday parties. But during the holiday season it is always good to think of all the things you are thankful for.

Of course when you think of being thankful you have to think of the loved ones in your family. Our pet family member is our cat Killer (no he is not a killer. He just looks like a killer whale because he is black and white).

The best pet insurance policy we could provide for him is daily love and care.  Our pets need our love and attention almost as much as the food and water we provide.  When we come home from an extended trip, Killer is always quick to meow and cry asking for extra attention because we were away.

And, like you would any family member, you know you want to provide for a time when he will need medical care. Pet health insurance is a great option to have because you have it set-up for times of need. But it also can come in handy for pet wellness visits too.  Getting a pet insurance quote can begin the process of obtaining pet health insurance.

During this holiday season it’s good to be thankful for the loved-ones in your life. That includes your family pet.
